Whatever mood, a smile always settle on our faces when we see a happy child’s face or something that makes us go back to the unforgettable memories of our childhood. And it’s like we instantly go to another world where it feels like frozen in time and everything is so carefree, spontaneous and joyful. One such small world opens every summer – already 12 years in the Sea Gardens in Burgas. This world is not ordinary or imaginary world – it is quite real, even if all made of sand.

So, in the not so distant year of 2008, the first-ever Festival of sand sculptures in Bulgaria welcomed its first visitors, and for a short time it became the favorite event not only for the citizens of Burgas but also for summer visitors. The location is always one and the same – the Ezero Park, next to the Equestrian center, but the entire resources used to develop the festival are getting larger every year.

The preparation process starts much earlier than the opening at the beginning of July. The site is getting prepared, sand is sifted and sculptors – the artists who breathe life into their statues – start their hard work. Each edition of the festival manages to incorporate so much emotions and spirit with its entirely new vision and is proof of its growing popularity. During the first edition, the magic of sand art reached 20,000 visitors, and year after year their number grew and rose to 100,000 visitors per season. We can proudly say that almost 900 thousand people have imprinted their smile in the sand storybook of the most beloved festival of Burgas through all its editions: Carnival - 2008, Fairy Characters - 2009, Circus - 2010, Cinema - 2011, Magical World - 2012, Walk of Fame - 2013, Fairytales of Sand - 2014, Safari with a Camera - 2015, Cinema Characters - 2016, Tales of Sand - 2017, Myths and Monsters – 2018, Favorite Children’s Characters – 2019.
